Rondo passes Bill Russell in assists, ranks 4th in Celtics history

In that dreamlike state we call living. Rondo is living a dream, and when you pass someone like Bill Russell on any list. The feelings most be a little unreal. Rondo has passed Russell on the Celtics All-Time assists list. According to Basketball-Reference, Sunday marked the first time that Rondo recorded at least 18 assists without a turnover during a regular season game.

1. Bob Cousy* 6945
2. John Havlicek* 6114
3. Larry Bird* 5695
4. Paul Pierce 4305
5. Rajon Rondo 4101
6. Bill Russell* 4100

Rajon Rondo finished with 11 points and as you know, a season-high 18 assists Sunday, while the Pistons had just 17 assists as a team. Kris Humphries also notched a double-double with 20 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Which Rondo was the guy getting Hump going in the first quarter.

Jeff Green led Boston in scoring with 27 points, with 13 of those coming in the third quarter, behind Rondo's ability to get Green in his spots. Rondo has already put his stamp on this franchise, and hopefully he'll continue to make a mark past the 2015 season.

  1. Big 3 who? Rondo showing why he's the best point guard in the game. Ainge, wake the F*ck up.
