Celtics assist Dave Cowens with youth basketball camp, why don't they hire him?

The Celtics are in need of a bigs coach. Don't you agree? Throw away the thought of Kevin Love for a second. We have Sully and Olynyk right now, in need of that extra help. Sullinger and a Cowens team up? Could be a magical combination of player and coach. Hakeem helps Dwight in Houston, and Ewing with Al Jefferson with the Hornets. Dave Cowens has coached before, and he was a success with the Hornets in the mid to late 90's.

Cowens won a playoff series with the Hornets, and helped them reach the playoffs twice in the three seasons he spent with the Hornets. Cowens had a brief stint with the Warriors, a really bad team at that. He coached them for one full season, and for 23 games the following season. Cowens has spent time as an assistant coach since his last head coaching job. He was vital for the Pistons as an assistant coach, and I think he can provide some kind of role for the Celtics as a coach in some capacity.

The Boston Celtics will once again join forces with one of the franchise's all-time greats - Dave Cowens - for a summer's worth of basketball camps.

The Celtics Cowens Camps presented by adidas will run for seven weeks at two different locations this summer, beginning July 7 at adidas-Group North America in Canton.

"This is one of the more exciting and longstanding programs the Celtics hold during the summer, and I’m excited to once again be a part of it,” said Cowens. “I look forward to meeting all the kids and helping them learn not only how to improve their basketball skills, but also help them focus on personal development."

  1. Can I watch him all day long? The guy was amazing, and as a coach for out Celtics. Yes....

  2. Thankyou, Shawn. Cowens was perhaps the greatest undersized center in NBA history, and was famous as a coach for teaching "hardball". Could Sully learn from him? Yes, I think so.
