Latest buzz about the Boston Celtics’ upcoming free agency

The 2014 NBA Playoffs are not over yet but the buzz around the impending free agency has skyrocketed as of lately. The latest reports state that Kevin Love might get traded away by the Minnesota Timberwolves, after expressing his clear point that he is not interested in signing an extension with the Wolves. For the Boston Celtics, this meant big news, as the team was searching for the right opportunity to make its move during the offseason. Can the Celtics lure Kevin Love to Boston and what do they have to offer?

Apparently, the Boston Celtics will have the opportunity to offer one of the most tempting packages to Minnesota. Danny Ainge knows that he has to place his hand deep in the Celtics’ assets pocket to land a superstar like Kevin Love, while at the same time not giving away Rajon Rondo.

Thankfully, the C’s possess some assets that would be ideal chips in such a trade and that would make this deal have sense for Minnesota.

Jeff Green, Jarred Sullinger, Brandon Bass and most probably Boston’s first round pick in the upcoming loaded draft would have to be given away as a part of the deal. Although none of Boston’s players can really reach Love when it comes to quality and stardom, Boston’s draft pick could work as the key and unlock this deal. The C’s own a lottery pick which be within the top eight spots and that will be an intriguing part of the deal for the Wolves. Minnesota is eager to start its rebuilding process and there just might not find a better way to kick start it, other than acquiring a top eight pick the upcoming draft, alongside with two young players with potential.

On the other hand, the Boston Celtics will be greatly benefited from such a deal. The C’s want speed up their rebuilding process, mainly due to the fact that Rajon Rondo’s contract expires next season. For the C’s to retain their superstar point guard, they will have to showcase some contention potential and there is certainly no better way to do it this summer than acquiring a free agent of the caliber of Love.

Danny Ainge has already made several plans about the offseason and the moves he could perform to help the team move forward. However, now that Love will be available, the Celtics’ plans will have to be reorganized. The positive fact about such a potential deal is that the Celtics will re-enter a playoff orbit next season, with Love onboard and once they do, they will stand good chances to re-sign Love next summer, where he will have the opportunity to become an unrestricted free agent.

The Celtics’ next moves, during the draft or the free agency will heavily depend on the case of Love. Boston certainly needs to find a center during the offseason and it also needs to upgrade its perimeter. But the potential move of personnel through a trade change the picture significantly.
